Thinking mathematically learning sequences – Stage 1
Two week units of work that build student skills.
Thinking mathematically 1
This sequence of learning provides opportunities to deepen critical aspects of early number sense in the context of games and investigations. Students will explore quantities, additive and multiplicative situations and various forms of patterning.
Thinking mathematically 2
This sequence of learning provides opportunities to deepen critical aspects of number sense through tight, targeted teaching and opportunities to apply skills (contexts for enriching learning such as games and investigations). Students will explore the flexibility of numbers and operations as they explore different ways of solving additive problems. They will also delve into aspects of measurement, shape and multiplicative thinking.
Thinking mathematically 3
This sequence of lessons provides opportunities to deepen critical aspects of number knowledge through tight, targeted teaching and opportunities to apply skills (contexts for enriching learning such as games and investigations). Students will explore the flexibility of numbers and operations whilst also exploring patterns and aspects of measurement and space and geometry. These tasks are designed to support learning in these areas through working mathematically.
