Stage 3, mathematics, Year B – Unit 28

This 2-week, Year B unit develops the big idea that visual representations help us understand aspects of our world (chance and position).

Students are provided opportunities to:

  • plot and translate shapes on a Cartesian plane
  • explore and experiment with frequency and sample size containing equal and unequal chance
  • present probability outcomes and create random generators.

Representing quantity fractions B – MAO-WM-01, MA3-RQF-01

Compare common fractions with related denominators

Geometric measure A – MAO-WM-01, MA3-GM-01

Position: Explore the Cartesian coordinate system

Geometric measure B – MAO-WM-01, MA3-GM-01

Position: Use the 4 quadrants of the coordinate plane

Two-dimensional spatial structure B – MAO-WM-01, MA3-2DS-01

2D shapes: Dissect two-dimensional shapes and rearrange them using translations, reflections and rotations

Chance A – MAO-WM-01, MA3-CHAN-01

List outcomes of chance experiments involving equally likely outcomes and represent probabilities

Chance B – MAO-WM-01, MA3-CHAN-01

Conduct chance experiments with both small and large numbers of trials
