Stage 1, mathematics, Year B – Unit 26
This sample Stage 1 unit continues to explore the big idea 'equal means equivalent'.
Students are provided with opportunities to:
- use balance to explore equivalence
- combine and separate quantities.
Representing whole numbers A and B – MAO-WM-01, MA1-RWN-01, MA1-RWN-02
- Use counting sequences of ones with two-digit numbers and beyond
- Represent numbers on a line
- Use counting sequence of ones and tens flexibly
Combining and separating quantities A and B – MAO-WM-01, MA1-CSQ-01
- Use advanced count-by-one strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems
- Recognise and recall number bonds up to ten
- Use flexible strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems
- Represent equality
- Represent and reason about additive relations
- Use knowledge of equality to solve related problems
Non-spatial measure A and B – MAO-WM-01, MA1-NSM-01, MA1-NSM-02
- Mass: Investigate mass using an equal-arm balance
- Mass: Compare the masses of objects using an equal-arm balance
