Stage 1, mathematics, Year B – Unit 26

This sample Stage 1 unit continues to explore the big idea 'equal means equivalent'.

Students are provided with opportunities to:

  • use balance to explore equivalence
  • combine and separate quantities.

Representing whole numbers A and B – MAO-WM-01, MA1-RWN-01, MA1-RWN-02

  • Use counting sequences of ones with two-digit numbers and beyond
  • Represent numbers on a line
  • Use counting sequence of ones and tens flexibly

Combining and separating quantities A and B – MAO-WM-01, MA1-CSQ-01

  • Use advanced count-by-one strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems
  • Recognise and recall number bonds up to ten
  • Use flexible strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems
  • Represent equality
  • Represent and reason about additive relations
  • Use knowledge of equality to solve related problems

Non-spatial measure A and B – MAO-WM-01, MA1-NSM-01, MA1-NSM-02
