Stage 2, mathematics, Year A – Unit 08
This Year A unit introduces the big idea that visual representations help understand aspects of our world for chance and position.
Syllabus

In this 2-week unit students are provided opportunities to:
- use directional language to interpret and locate positions on a grid map while describing routes between points
- predict and describe possible outcomes from chance experiments
- use visualisation, language and multiple representations of position and chance concepts.
Partitioned fractions A – MAO-WM-01, MA2-PF-01
Model and represent unit fractions, and their multiples, to a complete whole on a number line
Geometric measure A – MAO-WM-01, MA2-GM-01
- Position: Interpret movement on a map
- Position: Locate positions on grid maps
Geometric measure B – MAO-WM-01, MA2-GM-01
- Position: Create and interpret grid maps
- Position: Use directional language and describe routes with grid maps
Chance A – MAO-WM-01, MA2-CHAN-01
Identify possible outcomes from chance experiments
Chance B – MAO-WM-01, MA2-CHAN-01
Describe the likelihood of outcomes of chance events
