Multi-age K–2, mathematics, Year A – Unit 17

Introduce students to formal units of measurement in length and further develop student knowledge, understanding and skills of uniform informal units of measurement in this two-week, multi-age sample unit.

Syllabus

Syllabus outcomes and content descriptors from the Mathematics K–10 Syllabus (2022) © NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for and on behalf of the Crown in right of the State of New South Wales, 2024.

In 'What needs to be measured determines the unit of measurement', students are provided opportunities to:

  • compare, order and match using direct and indirect comparison with length, area, volume, and mass
  • consider how choice of measuring unit affects accuracy
  • learn why centimetres and metres are useful and how to measure with them.
