Stage 1, mathematics, Year B – Unit 38

This two-week unit develops students' knowledge and understanding of applications of data and chance, and their interconnectedness.

In this unit, 'Data is collected to solve problems', students are provided opportunities to:

  • select appropriate methods to collect, display and interpret data
  • identify misleading data
  • learn the order of seasons and months of the year and how to use a Gregorian calendar
  • use the language of chance to reason about possible outcomes in familiar activities.

Form, regroup, and rename three-digit numbers

  • Ask questions and gather data
  • Represent data with objects and drawings and describe the displays

Data B – MAO-WM-01, MA1-DATA-01, MA1-DATA-02

  • Identify a question of interest and gather relevant data
  • Create displays of data and interpret them

Chance A – MAO-WM-01, MA1-CHAN-01

Identify and describe possible outcomes

Chance B – MAO-WM-01, MA1-CHAN-01

Identify and describe activities that involve chance
