Stage 3, mathematics, Year B – Unit 30

This 2-week, Year B unit develops the big idea that angles are the primary structural component of many shapes.

Students are provided opportunities to:

  • estimate and describe the size of angles using known angles as benchmarks
  • estimate, measure and compare angles using degrees
  • solve problems involving duration, using 12- and 24-hour time.

Representing quantity fractions B – MAO-WM-01, MA3-RQF-01, MA3-RQF-02

  • Compare common fractions with related denominators
  • Build up to the whole from a given fractional part
  • Use equivalence to add and subtract fractional quantities

Geometric measure B – MAO-WM-01, MA3-GM-03

  • Angles: Investigate angles on a straight line and angles at a point
  • Angles: Investigate the relationships formed by the intersection of straight lines

Non-spatial measure B – MAO-WM-01, MA3-NSM-02

Time: Compare 12- and 24-hour time systems and convert between them
