Quirky comics: Hindi – birthday – level 2
This intermediate text is about a young man who receives a mysterious phone call that leads him to different places.
The Quirky comics video texts support the teaching of 'Understanding texts' outcomes in the Modern Languages K-10 Syllabus. This can be done in many ways, including:
- Students can use the provided transcripts to read the stories aloud and record themselves perform the stories as plays.
- They can summarise, sequence, extend and change the beginning or ending of the stories.
- They can write profiles of the characters and then put them in different situations.
The texts can also lead to communicative 'Interacting' or 'Creating texts' tasks, such as, telling a nurse why you don’t feel well or writing an invitation to a birthday party.

Man with blue hair: नमस्ते! कौन बोल रहा है?
Telephone: मेरी बात ध्यान से सुनो, अमित। Central station के सामने एक बेकर कैफ़े है। वहाँ शाम के पाँच बजे तुम्हारा कोई इंतज़ार कर रहा होगा।
Man with blue hair: लेकिन कौन बोल रहा है? क्या तुम आनया हो?

Man with blue hair: कैफ़े में ………. स्टेशन के सामने शाम के पाँच बजे! अजीब बात है! कुछ समझ नहीं आ रहा। शायद प्रिया वहाँ होगी।
Frame 2-1
Woman with orange hat: नमस्ते! क्या आप अमित है?
Man with blue hair: हाँ! मैं अमित हूँ। क्या हम पहले मिले है?
Woman with orange hat: नहीं। यह पत्र आपके लिए है।
Man with blue hair: क्या आपका नाम आनया है?
Woman with orange hat: नहीं। कृपया इस पत्र को ध्यान से पढ़िए। यह पत्र प्रिया से आपके लिए है।
Frame 2-2
Man with blue hair: कल सुबह दस बजे Shoppers’ Plaza में एक नाई की दुकान में जाइए। वहाँ तुम्हारा कोई इंतज़ार कर रहा होगा।
Man with blue hair (Thought bubble): अजीब बात है.......!

Woman with purple sunglasses: क्या आपका नाम अमित है?
Man with blue hair: हाँ, मेरा नाम अमित है। मैं आपको जानता हूँ। क्या आप प्रिया की दोस्त है?
Woman with purple sunglasses: मैं प्रिया की दोस्त नहीं हूँ। आप बैठिए और यह विग पहन लीजिए।
Man with blue hair: अरे वाह! मैं विग और मूँछों में अपने पिताजी जैसा लग रहा हूँ।
Woman with purple sunglasses: बहुत अच्छे! अब ध्यान से सुनो – बैंक के पीछे एक कपड़ों की दुकान है । आप दोपहर के बारह बजे वहाँ पहुँच जाना। वहाँ आपका कोई इंतज़ार कर रहा होगा।
Man with blue hair: मुझे कुछ समझ नहीं आ रहा।
Woman with purple sunglasses: जल्दी करो! हमारे पास ज़्यादा समय नहीं है।

Woman with pink wig: नमस्ते! क्या आप अमित है?
Man with blue hair: मुझे पता है तुम आनया हो- प्रिया की दोस्त।
Woman with pink wig: नहीं। अब जल्दी से यह पहन लीजिए।
Man with blue hair: जैकेट! लेकिन क्यों?
Woman with pink wig: बहुत अच्छे लग रहे हो। ज़्यादा प्रश्न मत पूँछों।
Woman with pink wig: अब तुम तैयार हो।

Man with blue hair: तैयार? किस लिए?
Woman with pink wig: आपको जल्दी ही पता लग जाएगा। अब आप Taj Hotel के रिसेप्शन पर जाइए। वहाँ आपका कोई इंतज़ार कर रहा है।
Man with blue hair: लेकिन कुछ तो बताइए।
Woman with pink wig: जल्दी करो! हमारे पास ज़्यादा समय नहीं है।

Woman with eye patch: नमस्ते! क्या आप अमित है?
Man with blue hair: हाँ। क्या तुम आनया हो- प्रिया की दोस्त?
Woman with eye patch: नहीं। कृपया यह चश्मे पहनिये और पाँचवी मंज़िल पर चलिए। वहाँ आपका कोई इंतज़ार कर रहा है।
Man with blue hair: अब चश्मा? और कौन इंतज़ार कर रहा है?
Woman with eye patch: आपको जल्दी ही पता चल जाएगा। अब हम जल्दी से पाँचवी मंज़िल पर चलते है।

Man with blue hair: पहले विग, मूँछें, जैकेट, फिर चश्मा और अब यह पाँचवी मंज़िल!!??
