Planning, programming and assessing PDHPE 7–10

Resources to help you plan, program and assess PDHPE from Years 7–10.

Year 7–10 courses

The aim of PDHPE 7–10 is to empower students with the essential knowledge, understanding, skills, values and attitudes to promote wellbeing and lead a safe, active and healthy life.

Mandatory PDHPE

To meet the mandatory curriculum requirements for students by the end of Year 10, schools must timetable 300 hours of PDHPE to be studied substantially throughout each of Years 7–10.

Elective courses

Students can also study other elective NESA content endorsed courses (CEC) in the PDHPE key learning area.

PDHPE 7–10 Syllabus (2024)

The Personal Development Health and Physical Education 7–10 Syllabus (2024)External link is to be implemented in 2027.

  • 2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
  • 2027 – Start teaching new syllabus.

There are a range of implementation models (see Models of curriculum implementation – secondary). The department recommends a staggered implementation to ensure continuity of learning for Years 7 to 10. It is recommended for the PDHPE 7–10 (2024) syllabus that:

  • in 2025 and 2026, teachers will engage with the syllabus, and plan and prepare for the implementation of the curriculum
  • in 2027, implementation commences in schools for Year 7 and Year 9
  • in 2028, implementation commences in schools for Year 8 and Year 10.

Teaching and learning resources

The following resources have been developed to assist teachers in creating learning that is contextualised to their classroom. They can be used as a basis for the teacher’s own program, assessment, or scope and sequence, or as an example of how the PDHPE 7–10 Syllabus (2024) could be implemented. Teachers should adapt resources to best suit their students' diverse needs.

Year 7 resources

The following sample program, slide deck and assessment task resources have been developed in alignment with the Stage 4 sample scope and sequence.

This program introduces Year 7 students to a variety of territory games. Students will learn how to create and use space, make effective passes, and work as a team in offense and defence.
