Models of curriculum implementation – secondary

These models offer guidance for school leaders and teachers to effectively implement the curriculum.

The NSW Curriculum Reform timeline (NESA)External link and the department’s phases of curriculum implementation provide essential information to support school leaders and teachers in their efforts to engage, enact, and embed the curriculum. This guidance supports schools to strategically plan for effective whole-school implementation.

Models for syllabus implementation

The NSW Curriculum Reform timeline (NESA)External link outlines the timing of syllabus consultation and release, planning and preparation, and implementation in schools.

In most cases, schools will have two years to plan and prepare ahead of syllabus implementation. Schools may choose the way they wish to implement to ensure teacher confidence when delivering the new syllabuses to optimise student learning opportunities.

The following examples show how syllabuses may be implemented from the date of release.

Example First year after syllabus release Second year after syllabus release Third year after syllabus release Fourth year after syllabus release
