Number and place value: Blended learning
Supports understanding of place value and applying knowledge to meet students' learning needs.
Purpose
This professional learning supports K-6 teachers in deepening their understanding of place value and applying their knowledge to meet students' learning needs. Participants will explore evidence-based classroom practices aligned with current research on effective place value instruction.
Who should participate?
Kindergarten to Year 6 teachers.
Mode of delivery
Blended learning, a combination of self-paced and facilitator led learning delivered via MS Teams.
Content
This professional learning consists of 3 live sessions, a prerequisite module and self-paced content.
Prerequisite e-learning: Introducing the properties and aspects of place value
Module 1: Developing place value through the aspects of ‘Making and representing’ and ‘Naming and recording’.
Module 2: Consolidating place value through the aspects of ‘Counting with understanding’ and ‘Comparing and ordering’.
Module 3: Consolidating place value through the aspects of ‘Renaming’ and ‘Calculating’.
Self-paced e-learning: Exploring place value with large numbers and decimals.
Completing this course will help participants to:
understand the properties of place value and their implications for teaching
engage with a range of effective classroom practices through the 6 aspects of place value
explore the NSW syllabus expectations for students’ understanding of place value
consider student needs and plan for differentiated teaching and learning.
