Implementing the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment Online


The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment has been revised in light of current research reflective of the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy 2017-2020 and is now linked to the National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions via an online tool.

This four-hour online learning course is available to support teachers in understanding how to implement the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment.

The modules are designed for all teachers to develop an understanding of how to deliver the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment online. Teachers will build their understanding and confidence in administering the assessment online by practising using the online tool whilst navigating through the professional learning.

Who should participate?

This course is available to all K-6 teachers.

Teachers will develop an understanding of how the information captured from the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment transfers to PLAN2 and is mapped to the National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions. The participants will then learn about the functionality and the analysis that is part of PLAN2 in order to plan for targeted and quality teaching and learning experiences for Kindergarten students. The last module requires teachers to reflect on their learning and identify any individual need for further reading of key strategy documents, investigate other professional learning opportunities and/or locate resources to support teaching.

Completing 'Implementing the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment' will contribute 4 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 5.1.2, 5.4.2, 6.2.2 and 6.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
