Ordering food (numeracy) – German

A Stage 4 German numeracy activity where students calculate costs related to eating out, including tipping.

In this Stage 4 numeracy activity, students access a German restaurant menu, and order food within a given budget. They also calculate the tip, and calculate savings when meals are takeaway.

As teachers of languages, we have a role to play in the development of students' numeracy skills, ensuring our support is age- and stage-appropriate. In this activity, students calculate the total cost of items ordered, the tip as a percentage of cost and the percentage saving if the meal is ordered to take away, instead of as table service.
