Early Childhood Education and Care – Certificate III

This qualification is for people who want to work as an early childhood educator in a centre-based service and family day care. This is the nationally regulated entry level qualification for working in early childhood education and care, learning and well-being.

This traineeship provides the opportunity to work in childhood education and care services for children from birth through to and including school age.

Early childhood educators teach children skills and values they will hold with them for life. In this program, you will learn about child development, legal and ethical responsibilities when caring for and educating children, creating safe learning environments engaging infants and toddlers, participating responsibly in the work environment, communication skills to interact with families, children and co-workers and first aid and WHS.

Outcome on completion of your HSC

  • Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care CHC30121 in CHC Community Services Training Package.

  • Articulation into the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care CHC50121.

  • The opportunity to be in a career that is connected to the community.

  • The start to a great career as an Early Childhood Educator with options to grow and continue learning.

Course delivery

  • On the job and off the job and can be delivered face-to-face, flexibly or mixed mode.

  • The SBT term is calculated in months from the date of commencement to 31 December of the HSC year.

Commitment required

  • Undertake a minimum of 100 days in paid employment plus the formal training to complete the qualification.

  • Undertake Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care as part of your HSC.

  • The employment and training can be undertaken during school time, after school and during school holidays.

How will you be assessed?

  • Both on the job and off the job through written tests, project work and practical exercises.

Industry-based Learning course

This optional course recognises the significant work component involved in the school based apprenticeship.

The course offers an additional 4 units credit towards your HSC.

This HSC VET course does not contribute towards the calculation of the ATAR.
