This course is for people wanting to work as assistants to tradespeople in the horticulture industry. Trainees will learn to participate in occupational health and safety processes and maintain environmentally sustainable work practices. Trainees may also gain skills in plant care, landscaping, nursery operations, arboriculture practices, turf construction, parks and gardens, use of chemicals, irrigation techniques, machinery operations and maintenance, merchandising and sales and pest management.

Outcome on completion of your HSC

• Certificate II in Horticulture AHC20416 in AHC Agriculture, Horticulture and Conversation and Land Management Training Package.
• A career path into the Horticulture Industry.
• Articulation into Certificate III Horticulture AHC30716.

Course delivery

• On the job and off the job and can be delivered face-to-face, flexibly or mixed mode.
• The SBT term is calculated in months from the date of commencement to 31 December of the HSC year.

Commitment required

• Undertake a minimum of 100 days in paid employment plus the formal training to complete the qualification.
• Undertake Certificate II Horticulture as part of your HSC.
• The employment and training can be undertaken during school time, after school and during school holidays.

How will you be assessed?

• Both on the job and off the job through written tests, project work and practical exercises.
