Animal Care – Certificate II
It is suitable for trainees wishing to work as an animal attendant or carer in kennels and catteries, pounds and welfare centres, quarantine establishments, zoological and fauna parks, wildlife refuges, research centres, pet shops and commercial animal production enterprises.

This traineeship offers you an entry point into the animal care industry by developing the skills and knowledge required to prepare you for roles such as an animal attendant in a kennel, cattery, animal shelter or pet shop.
You will learn about the health care needs of animals and how to catch and handle a range of animals, feed and water animals and carry out animal care hygiene routines.
Outcome on completion of your HSC
- Certificate II in Animal Care ACM20121 from ACM Animal Care and Management Training Package.
- Pathway to Certificate III in Animal Care Services.
Course delivery
Both on the job and off the job and can be delivered face-to-face, flexibly or mixed mode.
The SBT term is calculated in months from the date of commencement to 31 December of the HSC year
Commitment required
Undertake a minimum of 100 days in paid employment and training.
Undertake Certificate II Animal Care course as part of your HSC.
The employment and training can be undertaken during school time, after school and during school holidays.
How will you be assessed?
Both on the job and off the job through written tests, project work and practical exercises.
