Students undertaking creative arts in Stage 6 explore and discovery:
Stage 6 dance provides students with the opportunity to explore dance as an artform and a learning platform for academic, ethical and social development. Students with previous dance training are given the opportunity to study the creative, historical and cultural aspects of dance through performance, composition and appreciation. Through dance students will choreograph, perform, critically analyse, make judgments and gain knowledge and understanding in an enriching learning environment.
Stage 6 drama students explore all aspects of theatre performance and styles through making, performance and critically studying. HSC students are required to undertake a written examination, participate in a group performance and complete an individual project. Students can select one of the options listed below for their individual project.
Music 1 is one of 3 Stage 6 music courses. The syllabus intends to develop the knowledge and skills of students who are interested in pursuing employment in the contemporary music industry through the study of a broad range of musical styles. Designed to build on the learning in the mandatory 7-10 course, students of varying musical ability and knowledge of musical notation are encouraged to select the subject for the HSC.
Music 1 students will expand on their prior knowledge of the concepts of music through the learning experiences of performance, composition, musicology and aural within a range of musical styles, periods and genres.
Music 2 is one of 3 Stage 6 music courses. The syllabus intends to develop the knowledge and skills of students who are interested in pursuing employment in the classical and professional music industry and tertiary institutions through the study of the social, cultural and societal impacts, functions and contributions of music around the world. Designed to build on the learning in the mandatory 7-10 course, students in music 2 are encouraged to have completed an elective music course and be involved in after-school music activities. Students should also have a particular interest in Western art music. An acceptable level of understanding in notation is expected prior to commencing the course.
Music 2 students will build on their prior knowledge of the concepts of music through the learning experiences of performance, composition, musicology and aural to manipulate and understand the concepts of music in varying musical contexts.
Music extension is one of 3 Stage 6 music courses. This course is suitable for students who have had formal music training to a highly sophisticated level. Music extension is to be studied alongside Music 2 and allows a student to continue to refine their advanced music literacy and skills in performance, composition or musicology.
Stage 6 visual arts students use frames, conceptual frameworks and practice to learn about art, its development and history. Students develop their knowledge and skills in a broad range of art making techniques and use a process diary as they develop a body of work. The HSC involves both a written exam and submitted artwork.
In the content endorsed course of ceramics, students use the frames to learn about ceramics, its development and history. Students develop their knowledge and skills in a broad range of ceramic art making techniques and use a process diary as they develop their ideas. The HSC courses involves both a written exam and submitted artworks, all marked internally.
In the content endorsed course of Photography, video and digital imaging (PVDI), students use frames to learn about photography, its development and history. Students develop their knowledge and skills in a broad range of art or photographic making techniques and use a process diary as they develop their ideas. The HSC course involves both a written exam and submitted photographic and/or video and or digital imaging works, all marked internally.
The content endorsed course of visual design provides opportunities for students to use frames to explore visual design, its development and history. Students develop their knowledge and skills in a broad range of art making techniques and use a process diary as they develop their ideas. The HSC course involves both a written exam and submitted artworks, all marked internally.
