Resources including sample scope and sequences, unit and assessment tasks with marking guidelines to help you plan, program and assess Auslan 7–10.

Implementation of the Auslan K–10 Syllabus (2023) commences in schools in 2026, with:

  • 7–10 mandatory 100-hour courses
  • new 100 and 200-hour elective courses.

The department offers a range of resources to support the teaching of Auslan in Years 7–10.

Programming and assessing guidelines

These guidelines support teachers of Auslan 7–10 to develop programming documents, including scope and sequences, assessment opportunities and units of work.

Stage 4

This 10-week (25-hour) unit introduces students to exchanging information about themselves with a classmate using appropriate protocols. Students develop an understanding of the nature of identity in relation to themselves, the Deaf community and the wider hearing community.

Stage 5

Role of language, culture and identity

The focus area ‘Role of language, culture and identity’ supports students to identify, explore and analyse the interconnections between language, culture and identity.
