Units of work

A diverse range of programs developed for the Design Innovation Technology 7–10 (2025) syllabus. Topics reflect the breadth of the syllabus and can be adapted to suit your school’s context, facilities and available resources. Programs range from 7 to 20 weeks in length.

In this 15 week unit of work, students investigate bioplastics and other sustainable materials, applying design thinking to redesign a household product with improved environmental impact.

The program integrates design processes, innovation and technology applications, developing students’ understanding of sustainable design principles, material properties and responsible production practices in contemporary design contexts.

In this 10 week unit of work, students develop knowledge and skills in lighting design through integrated theoretical and practical learning experiences.

The unit focuses on identifying design assumptions, analysing product limitations and failures, and responding through disruptive innovation. Students investigate how lighting influences users, environments and behaviour, considering factors such as accessibility, wellbeing, safety and sustainability.

Students explore the role of emerging technologies, including smart sensors, adaptive lighting and Internet of Things (IoT) systems, in shaping contemporary and future lighting solutions.

Assessment schedule

A flexible assessment schedule supporting both 100-hour and 200-hour course delivery options. Developed to suit diverse school contexts, it outlines a balanced range of tasks that can be adapted to your students, available resources and program timing.
