Induction for pre-service teachers

An effective induction will help prepare pre-service teachers for a successful professional experience placement. It will make pre-service teachers feel welcome in your school and provide them with a clear understanding of the school's expectations.

Three documents make up the induction for pre-service teachers:

1: Mandatory pre-requisites for pre-service teachers

To be completed by the pre-service teacher prior to placement.

Lists the mandatory requirements for pre-service teachers to complete prior to placement.

This document will be provided to initial teacher education providers to distribute to their pre-service teachers.

2: Pre-service teacher acknowledgement

To be completed by the pre-service teacher prior to placement.

The pre-service teacher submits this acknowledgement to the school.

This document will be provided to initial teacher education providers to distribute to their pre-service teachers.

3: Checklist for the supervision of pre-service teachers

To be used by the school.

This document includes both mandatory requirements and best practice guidelines.

You may wish to include additional activities and information relevant to your school, location, team and/or role requirements.

You do not need to witness the administration of the epipen for online placements. If the placement becomes a mixed mode e.g back to face to face, then complete this component of the Induction.

In some schools, some of the mandatory actions listed for Day 1 and other actions may be completed by someone other than the supervising teacher e.g. Head Teacher Administration, Professional Experience Coordinator or School Administration Officer.

Some schools may choose to invite the pre-service teacher to a face to face pre-placement meeting. At this meeting, the mandatory actions that are required to be completed on Day 1 may be completed then.
