This follow collection of resources is designed to empower highly accomplished teachers in their leadership roles as they supervise pre-service teachers. These tools and materials aim to enhance the mentoring experience, promote effective teaching practices, and foster a supportive learning environment for both the pre-service teacher and the supervising teacher.
This collection of resources is designed to empower Professional Experience Coordinators (PEXC) and school leaders in effectively managing professional experience placements while fostering a vibrant learning culture. It advocates for viewing professional experience as a shared responsibility in preparing future teachers for the benefit of students, schools, and our system.
Some of the key roles of the Professional Experience Coordinator (PEXC):
Serve as liaison: Facilitate communication between initial teacher education providers (ITEPs), pre-service teachers (PSTs), supervising teachers (STs), and the school.
Oversee supervision: Manage the supervision of all pre-service teachers and supervising teachers within the school.
Advocate for involvement: Promote the active participation of school staff in the professional experience program, aiming to increase both the number and quality of supervising teachers.
Coordinate with initial teacher education providers: Ensure appropriate class placements and connect pre-service teachers with supervising teachers.
Welcome pre-service teachers: Introduce pre-service teachers to school policies and encourage broader involvement in school activities by communicating with them and starting the induction process prior to Day 1 of placement.
Support induction and onboarding of pre-service teachers and collaborating with supervising teachers to create effective teaching schedules and observation programs. Ensure that this information is communicated to the pre-service teachers prior to their start date.
Address concerns and support pre-service teachers and supervising teachers: Communicate promptly with the tertiary supervisor about any issues regarding pre-service teachers performance.
Ensure reports are submitted: Support supervising teachers and ensure consistency in judgment across the school.
