School readiness to implement Respectful Relationships Education

A planned approach to Respectful Relationships Education (RRE) implementation in schools, supported by structures and processes, helps ensure success.

There are a range of enablers which support school readiness for implementation of RRE.

Policies and mandated curriculum are in place to enable schools to implement RRE. Opportunities exist across the curriculum for delivery of RRE. Resources developed as part of the RRE program are:

  • designed for implementation in all schools
  • mapped to NSW syllabuses.

Strong commitment of leaders and staff to RRE is a key enabler for schools. Professional learning and support are available for leaders to build their confidence and capability to lead RRE in their school context.

Professional learning is available for staff to understand:

  • the principles of respectful relationships
  • how to effectively deliver the curriculum
  • how to support self and others.

There are high rates of domestic, family and sexual violence in the community. This makes it likely that many staff and students have lived or living experience with forms of abuse or violence. Ensuring that there are appropriate resources and support services available is critical to the wellbeing and safety of the school community.
