Child protection – responding to and reporting students at risk of harm policy and procedures

All staff have a responsibility to recognise and respond to safety, welfare or wellbeing concerns for children and young people and inform their principal or workplace manager.

The Child protection – responding to and reporting students at risk of harm policy and procedures provides direction and guidance on identifying and managing risk of harm concerns to keep children and young people, including students in statutory out-of-home care, safe and supported in NSW public schools.

Working with families

Collaboration between staff, students, parents and carers is fundamental to maintaining positive student behaviour in schools. Families are key partners in RRE. The department provides advice for effectively working with families.

Domestic and family violence

Access the department’s information and approach to domestic and family violence. This aims to strengthen staff capability in recognising, responding to and supporting children and young people who may be experiencing or using domestic and family violence, and educating students on respectful relationships (primary prevention and early response).

Student behaviour policy

Access the department’s guidance on supporting and managing safe, responsible and respectful student behaviour in NSW public schools. Schools will develop behaviour support and management plans which can embed RRE, include anti-bullying strategies and prioritise learning continuity.

The Behaviour code for students promotes the inclusion, learning, wellbeing and safety of all students in NSW public schools.

Code of ethics and conduct

The Code of ethics and conduct framework facilitates day-to-day ethical decision-making. It provides guidance on professional conduct standards that promote adherence to department and NSW public sector values.

Uniforms at school procedures

Uniforms can influence students' attitudes, behaviours and interactions with others.

Access the Uniforms at school procedures when reviewing practices in your school which promote gender equality, build respect and promote a sense of belonging and identity.
