English K–6 scope and sequences

Sample scope and sequences to support implementation of the K–6 outcomes and content from the English K–10 syllabus.

Features

The English K–10 Syllabus provides a unique opportunity for a new approach to designing scope and sequences. It encourages a more flexible approach to planning for teaching and learning.

Sample scope and sequences for English K–6:

  • include content points that are organised under the relevant focus areas, outcome codes and outcome statements
  • demonstrate continuity of learning
  • consider how parallel syllabus content is connected to content from other focus areas
  • are flexible and fluid – can be adapted to reflect needs, interests and abilities of all students
  • address all outcomes for each stage of learning
  • leverage ‘new’ structural elements from the syllabus: focus areas and content groups
  • meet requirements for compliance
  • save teachers time by providing a strong foundation for whole-school and stage-based curriculum planning.

Revised K–2 sample scope and sequence (2026)

If you are testing the early access K–2 Component B sample units on the Lesson Library (staff only), use the revised K–2 sample scope and sequence, updated in 2026.

This sample scope and sequence has been updated in 2026 to align with the early access Component B sample units, on the Lesson Library. It now includes the full year of sequencing and Component B syllabus mapping for the revised sample units. Schools may continue using the 2022–2024 sample scope and sequence for Component A.

Sample scope and sequences (2022–2024)

If you are using the existing K–6 resources (staff only), including the K–2 sample units (staff only) published in 2022–2024, continue with the following sample scope and sequences. Note: During 2026, the existing K–2 resources will be decommissioned from the website at the end of each term after the revised units have been published in Lesson Library.

These samples represent ‘one way’ of sequencing learning to meet syllabus requirements. Schools are strongly encouraged to make changes to meet the learning needs of all students.
