Building a culturally responsive and inclusive workplace for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
The Culturally Inclusive Workplace Guide supports employers, schools and staff to strengthen cultural understanding, remove barriers and ensure students feel respected and supported during workplace learning.
Developed in collaboration with the Skills and Workforce, and Aboriginal Education and Communities Directorates, the Culturally Inclusive Workplace Guide (PDF 3471 KB) reflects the department’s commitment to removing barriers and creating environments that value diversity, inclusivity, and respect for culture.
The guide offers practical ways employers can strengthen their cultural understanding and make workplaces welcoming for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students involved in workplace learning activities.
We understand that students do best when their culture and identity are acknowledged and respected within their learning and work settings. By fostering cultural responsiveness and inclusivity, workplaces will not only improve student wellbeing and opportunities but also nurture respectful, fair, and vibrant teams.
All employers, schools and staff are encouraged to use this resource, collaborate closely with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, and commit to continuous learning and strong partnerships with local Aboriginal Communities. Together, we can create safe, culturally inclusive spaces that recognise and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and create a stronger future for everyone.
