Becoming mathematicians – Quantifying collections

Explore and examine critical components in the development of number sense and quantifying collections, including perceptual and conceptual subitising, number knowledge, spatial patterns, counting, cardinality, early multiplicative strategies and counting principles.

Participation

This bite-size course is for all K-8 staff wishing to learn about quantifying collections.

The video is about 30 minutes long. You might like to watch it on your own or with your colleagues. It is recommended to allocate at least one hour to access the video and supporting resource, which includes opportunities to reflect on key mathematical ideas and explore follow-up ideas and resources.

Mode of delivery

Becoming mathematicians: Quantifying collections is available through MyPL.

Additional professional learning

Quantifying collections is a part of the Becoming Mathematicians series of bite-size on-demand professional learning. These are short, focused mathematical videos and resources that explore important mathematical concepts from K-8. They are designed to be completed in one session with suggested opportunities to further explore ideas in practice.
