Becoming mathematicians – Exploring patterns

Explore many types of mathematical regularities and structures, including repeated patterns, growing and shrinking patterns, patterns in number words of counting, perceptual and spatial patterns, arithmetic and combinatorial patterns and geometric patterns.

Participation

This bite-size course is for all K-8 staff wishing to learn about exploring patterns.

The video is about 30 minutes long. You might like to watch it on your own or with your colleagues. It is recommended to allocate at least one hour to access the video and supporting resource, which includes opportunities to reflect on key mathematical ideas and explore follow-up ideas and resources.

Mode of delivery

Becoming mathematicians: Exploring patterns is available through MyPL.

Additional professional learning

Exploring patterns is a part of the Becoming Mathematicians bite-size on-demand professional learning series. These are short, focused mathematical videos and resources that explore important mathematical concepts from K-8. They are designed to be completed in one session with suggested opportunities to further explore ideas in practice.
