Careers Adviser Mentoring Program

Current experienced school-based careers advisers, develop your leadership and communication skills as a mentor for new careers advisers.

Careers Adviser Mentoring Program

The Careers Adviser Mentoring Program is a 16-week professional development program designed to strengthen the leadership capabilities of experienced school careers advisers and develop their skills in mentoring.

In this program, mentors work closely with a new careers adviser (a mentee).

The program includes:

  • In-person sessions
  • Self-paced online learning
  • Activities to complete between sessions

These are led by experienced leaders from the Career and Workplace Learning (CWL) team and the NSW School Leadership Institute (SLI).

What the program offers:

  • Mentors are matched with mentees to support their professional growth.
  • A one-day workshop that explains mentoring within careers education.
  • Extra help and resources from the CWL team.
  • Ongoing support to help mentors during the program.

How to join as a mentor:

  • You must apply through the CWL Mentor Expression of Interest (EOI) form.
  • Preference is given to careers advisers with more than five years’ experience.
  • During the program, you will learn new skills and connect with others while mentoring a new careers adviser.
  • Successful mentors will automatically join the Lead and Aspire Mentoring Program (LAMP). The CWL team will arrange your registration with the NSW School Leadership Institute.

NOTE: participants MUST be available for all Career and Workplace Learning and LAMP professional learning sessions.

Mentor expression of interest (EOI)

If you have over five years of experience as a careers adviser and are interested in mentoring, please:

  • Talk to your principal about this opportunity and the time it requires.
  • Attend an online information session on:
    Thursday, 23 October 2025
  • Read the Lead and Aspire Mentoring Program Brochure 2026.
  • Ensure you can commit to all parts of the program.
  • Submit your EOI through the 2026 Expression of Interest for Mentors form.

This is for teachers new to the careers adviser role who want to join the program. The EOI opens on 27 October 2025.

New careers advisers who join will be paired with an experienced mentor to get support and guidance. Mentees do not need to take part in mentor-only activities.
