Middle leaders from Tumut to Broken Hill were the focus of the SLI team this week as we visited schools and offices across the state to deliver our in-person professional development.

On Tuesday, assistant principals and head teachers from the Tumut, Temora and Albury networks took part in a tailored session devoted to the skills and art of mentoring.

The learning was delivered by members of the SLI’s mentoring and shadowing team, Michael Miller and Samantha Jackson, and was based on the hugely popular Lead and Aspire Mentoring Program.

“Middle leaders can play a key role as mentors in their schools, passing on their knowledge and expertise and helping to nurture the growth of future leaders,” Michael said.

Out west, our Director Joanne Jarvis and principals Karen Maraga and Corinna Robertson visited Broken Hill to deliver the second phase of the Regional, Rural and Remote Middle Leaders Program.

Middle leaders and principals attended over two days where they explored the topic of social and emotional intelligence and why it matters for school leaders.

“It is a privilege to work with such committed middle leaders in Broken Hill, who are focused on strengthening their leadership and embedding their learning in their schools," Joanne said. "We look forward to returning soon to continue the journey with a focus on Feedback Culture."
