Introduction to music within the Creative Arts K–6 (2006) Syllabus

This course offers practical strategies for teaching music within the K–6 classroom as well as unpacking syllabus metalanguage.

Purpose

This course is divided into two modules (each module must be completed in order to successfully finish the course):

    • Revision – Musical concepts
    • Interpreting the syllabus: the learning experiences

In each of the modules, you will:

  • plan, deliver and be given feedback on two targeted music lessons you teach
  • receive individual feedback
  • be required to answer multiple-choice style assessment questions throughout in order to progress through the course.

Course content

Completing this course will help you to:

  • engage in professional learning in visual arts as an artform within the NSW Creative Arts K–6 Syllabus (2006)

  • build capacity and confidence

  • instigate change in attitudes and abilities in the creative arts (visual arts) K–6.

Artmaking practices such as line, texture and space are combined with practical tools in the learning experiences and artistic forms described within the syllabus. You will participate in this two-part online modules to unpack the syllabus and give you ideas for ways to enable these expectations in your classrooms. At the conclusion of part 1 of the online module, you will plan, deliver and receive feedback on a targeted visual arts lesson you will teach to your class. You will answer multiple-choice style assessment questions throughout, in order to progress through the course.
