What does the Destination High School Trend report provide?

The following visualisations are available in this report:

Top 5 Destination High Schools

  • This stacked column chart displays the top 5 primary transition schools trend for the selected primary school.
  • 10 years of historical data will eventually be included, however the earliest year displayed is 2011. This is due to unavailability of high-quality data prior to this year.
  • Non-government schools are included where known.
  • Some schools and years have a column section labelled “unknown”. This means the students went to interstate/overseas high schools, or they did not do the NAPLAN 7 assessment, so a high school record has not been found for them. For example schools/clusters near the border with another state will have a large unknown component. This indicates the students in the selected primary cluster went to high schools in the state across the border. Due to privacy reasons we only receive NAPLAN data for NSW.
  • Be aware that as data for non- government schools comes from NAPLAN which is released in August, data for the final year in the chart will usually not be available until August. If a cluster has had students transitioning to a particular non- government high school for all years except the final year, this indicates the data is not yet available.

What should I look for?

  • Are there any high schools that have an increasing or decreasing intake from the selected primary school over time? If there have been no boundary changes this may indicate a change of parental choice.

Where does this data come from?

  • Annual enrolment census – student level data. For all students in Year 5 at the selected primary school or cluster, the school they attended for Year 7 (i.e. 2 years later) is identified.
  • NAPLAN – where a year 7 record was not found in the enrolment data for a student, but a NAPLAN 7 record was found, this is used instead.

How frequently is data updated?

  • Historical enrolments are updated annually after the Enrolment census is completed in August.
  • NAPLAN data is updated annually after NAPLAN results are released.
