STEM Enrichment
Learn how the department’s STEM Enrichment program enhances STEM education in NSW public schools.
Our aims
The STEM Enrichment program aims to complement STEM education in NSW public schools. We work with top Australian universities, government agencies, and industry partners.
We follow the National STEM School Education StrategyExternal link and Our Plan for NSW Public Education. Our goals are to:
- ensure that students from under-represented groups in STEM receive active support to promote equity
- boost teachers’ confidence in delivering STEM education
- engage students and inspire them to explore STEM pathways and careers.
What we offer
The STEM Enrichment program offers many activities and projects, divided into 2 main types: school-based and state-based.
School-based projects are delivered by the STEM Industry School Partnerships (SISP) programExternal link and include:
- Academies of STEM ExcellenceExternal link: located in NSW regional centres and delivered by STEM Project Officers.
- NSW Virtual STEM AcademyExternal link: online lessons delivered from regional studios.
State-based projects are managed by the STEM Enrichment program and include:
- Partnerships and equity: we foster diversity, inclusion, and excellence through strategic collaborations and partnerships with industry and tertiary leaders to provide world-class STEM enrichment opportunities.
- Curriculum resources: we create and publish teaching resources and guides for K–12 STEM classes and the iSTEM department approved elective course material.
- Professional learning: we design and deliver professional learning for teachers to improve their knowledge of technology, pedagogy and curriculum.
