Japanese Beginners – approaching the HSC oral examination

To support students with developing their understanding of the Japanese Beginners HSC oral examination.

Syllabus

Outcomes and content descriptors from Japanese Beginners Stage 6 (2009) © NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for and on behalf of the Crown in right of the State of New South Wales, 2025.

This package includes a video of a mock conversation, with discussion questions.

This resource supports students to:

  • consider how the 'examiner' and 'student' approach a range of topics
  • identify areas for improvement
  • create their own responses to a variety of questions.

To further enhance student learning, teachers can use this resource as a model for classroom discussion, peer assessment or practice interviews. By observing authentic interactions and reflecting on both effective strategies and common pitfalls, students can build confidence and deepen their understanding of what is expected in the HSC oral examination.
