Legal, law enforcement and security

This industry is all about keeping us safe and upholding and enforcing the law.

The legal sector covers a large range of roles which understand and apply the laws which govern us. This can be anything from criminal to civil, to environmental, corporate, family law. People in the legal industry can work directly for the courts, or they can work for large legal firms as a barrister or solicitor. Or they can be in house counsel for a large company or organisation. Or in a legal aid office helping those in need. Law can also be used as a basis for other professions or careers, such as lobbying, or working in government.

Law enforcement jobs are usually in government organisations such as police, defence or prison guards or court security; as well as security guard roles in private companies. Many law enforcement jobs can be quite technical or scientific. For instance, as a forensic scientist or examiner. Or an intelligence analyst or a handwriting expert. There can be inherent danger working in law enforcement and it may require unusual hours or shift work.
