Delivery of white card training during NSW lockdown restrictions
Participating training providers are offering white card training during the NSW lockdown restrictions via connected real-time delivery. This will provide learners with the opportunity to complete white card training remotely using live video streaming platforms.
A list of all SafeWork NSW approved providers is also available on the Training Services NSW website.
What is a white Card?
A white card (or general construction induction card) is a mandatory requirement for workers who want to carry out construction work.
The white card provides people entering the construction industry with a basic knowledge of requirements under Workplace Health Safety laws, the common hazards and risks likely to be encountered on construction sites and how these risks should be controlled.
White card training for high school students
A waiver has been applied so NSW school students are now eligible for fee-free white card training under the NSW JobTrainer – Construction initiative.
Students must be 16 years of age or above at the time of enrolment.
Students must also meet the following eligibility criteria:
- reside or work in NSW,
- be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.
Who else is eligible?
You may also be eligible to enrol in fee-free white card training through NSW JobTrainer if you are:
- aged from 16 - 24 inclusive and no longer at school (until further notice), or
- in receipt of a Commonwealth Government benefit, or
- an unemployed person, or
- expecting to become unemployed
and are an Australian Citizen, a permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen, or a humanitarian visa holder that lives or works in NSW.
What are the benefits of completing the training?
All students who complete the white card training will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in CPCCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.
Students will:
- learn how to identify and reduce possible safety hazards on construction sites
- learn how to establish safety procedures and see that they are followed
- know the local laws and regulations on a construction site
- kick start their career in the construction industry with free entry level training
- undertake work experience in an operational construction zone.
Upon completion of the training, students will need to complete an application form for a white card. The training provider will submit these forms to SafeWork NSW on behalf of students.
How long does the course go for?
The minimum duration is six hours.
How is the training delivered?
Training must be delivered face-to-face or connected real time delivery (includes interactive real time via on-line delivery method) to comply with the legislative requirements set by SafeWork NSW.
How much does the training cost?
The training is free and funded under the NSW JobTrainer – Construction Initiative.
The cost of the white card application fee is built into the training provider’s fee who delivers the training. There should be no additional cost to the student.
When can I enrol in training?
Enrolments for job seekers (excluding school students) are open now until 31 December 2021. School students cannot enrol until further notice.
