This report shows the health state of a local Health Area, based on various topics.

What to look for

  • What are the statistics on health issues by Health District?
  • What are the statistics on health issues by a particular health topic?
  • What are the statistics on health issues over a period of time?

Constraints:

  • Location is Local Health Area NSW – this does not correspond with either LGAs or school catchments/clusters/networks.
  • According to the NSW Health stats, a person is considered overweight or obese with a BMI of at least 25 kg/m2.

What does the Health Statistics report provide?

This six-page report provides data on the following topics:

  • Percentage of Overweight or Obese for 16+ years of age from 2002 to 2014
  • Percentage of the Population that have Consumed Alcohol ages 12 to 17 from 2005 to 2011.
  • Asthma percentage of the population ages 2 to 15 years for 2011 to 2014 – displays those with current condition and those who have ever had asthma
  • Percentage of Children at Risk for two separate indicators:
    • Food Insecurity from 2003 to 2014
    • Significant Behavioural Problems from 2011 to 2014
  • Percentage of Population with Diabetes for 16 years and over from 2002 to 2014
  • Percentage of Immunisation by Age and Aboriginality for 2008 to 2014.

How can I use the Health Statistics report to support my school self-assessment?

These reports provide a picture of population-level health within the Local Health Area that the school is based in. This information can assist schools to implement wellbeing measures in their students and engage successfully with their school community.
