Environmental and zoo education centres

The NSW Department of Education operates 24 Environmental and Zoo Education Centres (EZECs) across New South Wales. These centres are the leading providers of teacher-led school excursions and incursions, supporting thousands of K–12 students each year.

Our EZECs support schools through curriculum-aligned excursions, incursions, fieldwork, sustainability education, teacher professional learning and learning resources.

Programs use each centre’s local environments, including bushland, waterways, wetlands, coastlines, farms, urban places, national parks and zoos, to connect classroom learning with real places.

NSW Environmental and Zoo Education Centres support schools with:

  • Curriculum-aligned excursions and incursions for K–12 students.

  • Fieldwork and outdoor learning in natural, built, cultural, agricultural and zoo environments.

  • Digital and classroom resources that support pre-visit and post-visit learning.

  • Teacher professional learning in curriculum-aligned environmental education, sustainability and outdoor learning.

  • Programs linked to local ecosystems, environmental issues and place-based learning.
