Teaching and learning

Students need a range of skills so they can act for the environment. Our teaching must provide students with these skills so they can:

  • explore and investigate their world
  • propose actions needed to maintain and improve their environment
  • take action for a more sustainable future.

Learning about sustainability can be taught across the curriculum and is best delivered through a wide range of teaching and learning activities through all of the key learning areas. Current research reports on the value of learning for sustainability.

Sustainability topics

Resources have been organised into sustainability topics. Each topic contains resources framed on the sustainability action process, additional activities for assessing the current situation, ideas for action and syllabus content links.

The Environmental and Zoo Education Centre network (EZEC) has created virtual resources for schools to support teaching and learning from home.

Designed by teachers from 25 centres across the state, there are K-12 resources available across a host of different subjects, including science, geography and wellbeing.
