Physical world – design and production investigation

This Stage 1 investigation complements and blends with any existing unit of work in the Physical World strand where teachers would like to embed a stronger design and production skill focus in their teaching of science and technology.

Focus question

'How are forces used for a purpose?'

Students work in groups of 3 to demonstrate how light energy sources are used for shadow theatre design and how forces are used to create movement in shadow puppets for entertainment and storytelling.

Task duration

Approximately 3-4 hours of learning.

This investigation includes a comprehensive resource list, online video links, formative assessment opportunities and links to the Quality Teaching Model assessment elements.
