Physical world – design and production investigation

This Stage 2 investigation complements and blends with any existing unit of work in the physical world strand where teachers would like to embed a stronger design and production skill focus in their teaching of science and technology.

Focus question

'How can we use forces and energy in a product or system?'

Students work in pairs to explore how light energy from the sun is converted to heat energy to cook food using a solar oven.

Task duration

Approximately 4-5 hours of learning.

This investigation includes a comprehensive resource list, online video links, formative assessment opportunities and links to the Quality Teaching Model assessment elements.
