Curriculum Reform Communities

Curriculum Reform Communities (CRC) support schools to implement syllabuses and build teacher capability to lead curriculum change in their setting.

Purpose of Curriculum Reform Communities

CRC support schools to implement syllabuses and develop contextualised curriculum. They:

  • share practical information about effective curriculum implementation
  • provide access to support materials and resources
  • build the capability of teachers to lead curriculum change
  • create opportunities for teachers and leaders to collaborate within and across communities.

2026 models of curriculum support

From Term 1 2026, CRC will be realigned into new communities and networks including:

The communities and networks will provide school leaders and teachers with practical support specific to their phases of curriculum implementation (engage, enact, and embed). They build on what has worked well in CRC including:

  • strong local facilitation tailored to school contexts
  • clear and consistent messaging across the department
  • equitable access to professional learning and curriculum support
  • collaborative communities and networks that build shared understanding and trust.

For more information on the evaluation of CRC please visit the Evaluation of Curriculum Reform Communities webpage.

Leadership roles

Leadership within schools, communities and networks has been a strength of CRC. The 2026 models will continue to develop leadership capabilities, with communities and networks adopting approaches tailored to their specific contexts to support effective curriculum implementation.

Primary curriculum communities and Curriculum communities will follow a similar leadership framework to existing CRC. Both models will continue to be facilitated by a leader and supported by a curriculum mentor.

Secondary curriculum networks will be led by middle leaders or aspiring leaders, who may be nominated by their principal or self-nominate. Leaders will be supported by the Secondary Curriculum Teaching and Learning team.
