Everything you need to know to nominate for the Nanga Mai Awards in 2021.

Who can be nominated for a Nanga Mai Award?

Awards will be presented to selected Aboriginal students, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal teachers, other Departmental staff, community members, schools and external organisations working in partnership with schools to improve educational achievements in the area of Aboriginal education and community engagement.

Candidates can be nominated for more than one category - please submit a new form for each category. Nominations should be approximately 100 words.

Who can nominate?

NSW Department of Education staff including principals, school executive, teachers, school administrative and NSW Department of Education non-school based staff and public service employees.

When do nominations open and close?

Nominations for the 2021 Nanga Mai Awards will open on Monday 16 November 2020 and close on Friday 18 December 2020. This is your chance to showcase excellence in Aboriginal education in your community.

To nominate please submit the nomination form from the relevant category below. In addition to the nomination form linked below, nominators are required to upload a completed endorsement form.

The application process

Nominations are open to NSW Department of Education staff including principals, school executive, teachers, school administrative and NSW Department of Education non-school-based staff and public service employees.

The nominations are reviewed by two panels including School Services area Aboriginal education teams and by a state panel consisting of representatives from the Aboriginal Outcomes and Partnerships Directorate, NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, the Aboriginal Education Council, the NSW Primary Principals' Association and the NSW Secondary Principals' Council.

Principals/supervisors of Nanga Mai Award winners are notified in Term 1 (February 2021).

NSW Department of Education staff will be able to access the Google nomination form by using the account email: firstname.lastname@education.nsw.gov.au

Log into your staff/student portal, click on GSuite, and then click to nominate (Download instructions on accessing GSuite).

Endorsement of nominations

Nominations will require endorsement from your school principal/supervisor and your local/regional Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) president.

Where endorsement cannot be obtained from the local AECG president, please contact the NSW AECG Secretariat on 02 9550 5666 for advice.
