HSC Subject Guarantee

The NSW Government is committed to ensuring every student in a NSW public high school has access to a broad range of Higher School Certificate (HSC) subjects, regardless of where they live or the size of their school.

From 2027, the HSC Subject Guarantee ensures eligible public school students can access 11 advanced and extension HSC courses.

Students may study these courses through a range of delivery options. Students can study these courses at their high school, where the school offers that course. If a course is not offered locally, eligible students may be able to access it through one of the state's six Distance Education high schools or Aurora College, the department's virtual school.

The HSC Subject Guarantee gives more students the opportunity to study HSC courses that match their interests, abilities and aspirations. It builds on the NSW Department of Education's commitment to expanding access to high-quality curriculum and complements initiatives such as the Inspire program, which supports high potential and gifted students across NSW public schools.
