  • Universal Resources Hub: The hub provides a central place for teaching and school-based staff to access and share quality-assured resources.

  • Modern learning tools: Introduction and deployment of modern learning tools and education technology to uplift learning delivery.

  • Education Wallet: Online education passport that allows students to store and share academic and personal achievements in a single digital location.

  • Online learning platform: Development of a platform for acquiring learning tools, allowing schools to select from a pre-approved set of providers.

  • Files Anywhere, Anytime – Metro: Migration of physical local storage onto a native cloud storage solution for metro schools.

  • AI and machine learning to support teaching: The use of AI tutors in classrooms to boost productivity and help students better retain critical information.

  • Learning Recommender Project: Allow teachers to control the learning path through a syllabus-based learner recommender.

  • Digital machine-readable curriculum: Support the curriculum design and the digital publication activities published by NESA and ACARA.

  • Professional learning and accreditations: Consolidated platform for teachers and staff to complete their mandatory professional learning and compliance training.

There is a disparity in the access to digital teaching and learning tools and services around our schools and education centres. 

 

How?

Improve infrastructure, connectivity, device management and availability of digital learning assets.

 

Key strategic initiatives

  • Metro Network Uplift: Uplift the quality and access of networking technology infrastructure in metro schools.
  • Rural Access Gap Program: Provide students in regional NSW with better educational opportunities through IT enablement, devices, connectivity and infrastructure.
  • Asset management modernisation - School Infrastructure NSW: Migration of T-Reign and Asset Management System from the on-premises Data Centre to the Hybrid cloud.
  • Device strategy and management at schools: Refresh the device strategy for schools to provide staff with updated and compliant devices and leverage contemporary learning tools. 
  • School visitor check-In: Create a single visitor sign-in system for every school across the state.

Seamless services

  • Enterprise Service Management: Implementation of an Enterprise Service Management tool will deliver corporate services/requests including relevant workflows, case management and knowledge.
  • Online enrolment: Continuation of the in-flight program that provides parents with a fast and digital way to process applications for primary schools.
  • Student Admin Panel: Introducing formal and consistent technology and procedures around core administrative activities for schools and students.
  • Enhanced IT support for schools: Improving the IT support for schools both on-site and increase remote diagnosis from the department.
  • Next generation contact centre: Enhancement of EDConnect to operate as a leading edge, omni-channel contact centre.
  • Intelligent automation: Adopt BPA to streamline processes by automating and optimising processes and digitisation of admin activities.

Data driven insights

Investment in accurate, secure and real-time data with robust governance to support leaders and support staff in planning and making informed decisions.

 

Why?

Slow access to data and low quality is limiting the department’s ability to make insight-driven decisions. 

 

How?

Invest in contemporary data platforms and capabilities, improve department-wide access to data and enhance data policy and governance.  

 

Key strategic initiatives

  • Data governance, management and quality improvement: Enhance data access along with accuracy of insights to provide golden record capabilities.
  • Data ecosystem reform: Modernising our data and analytics platforms and ecosystem capabilities.
  • Data capability reform and strategic uplift: Uplifting data capability and assist in development of a data governance framework.
  • Spatial data capture: Consolidating school spatial data, including building and infrastructure information.
  • Cognitive analytics: Investment in AI and machine learning tools to gain insights into behavioural patterns and apply to learning and efficiencies.

Cyber secure

Embed stable and scalable security across all our schools, education centres, and systems to protect the privacy and safety of our department staff, students, learners, parents, carers and community.

 

Why?

An increased number of cyber and privacy attacks threaten the safety and security of the department, its data and its people.

 

How?

Embed scalable and world class cyber security technology and practices to enhance the prevention, detection and mitigation of cyber incidents. 

 

Key strategic initiatives

  • Cyber strategy and uplift: Develop a revised Cyber Strategy and related Cyber Uplift Program to enhance department's digital resilience.
  • Safeguarding data: Improve experience of users accessing applications and safeguard the information and systems by implementing  key policies.
  • Enhance detection, response and recovery: Agree on strategic monitoring tools and centralise application, infrastructure and security monitoring.
  • Stronger controls: Implement stronger security policies and procedures to ensure the safety of our environment. 
  • Australian Cyber Security Centre's Essential Eight: Improve maturity against the NSW Cyber Security’s Essential Eight.  
  • Training and awareness: Upskill department staff and raise greater awareness of the cyber and privacy threats.
  • Cyber maturity review of mission-critical applications (crown jewels): A detailed cyber analysis of our crown jewel applications to ensure the safety of their data. 

Simplified  IT

Simplify the IT environment, uplift capability and provide transparent and aligned portfolio management to create an efficient, sustainable and responsive IT partner to the department.

Complex IT systems and processes are impacting the responsiveness of IT support, the ability to innovate, and deterring the business from engaging ITD.

 

How?

Uplift legacy systems and reduce technical debt. Simplify the IT ecosystem and create an efficient and responsive IT partner to the department. 

 

Key strategic initiatives

  • SAP upgrade and migration to cloud (S/4HANA): Migration of SAP environment to the latest S/4Hana and a migration to public cloud.
  • Human Capital Management Transformation (HCM): Transform existing HR administrative functions into a native HCM platform through SuccessFactors.
  • Integration ecosystem: Consolidating and uplifting internal and external integration components to provide a contemporary integration approach.
  • ITD Operating Model refresh: Detailed implementation, transition and adoption of ITD’s new ways of working to align with our department and strategic objectives. 
  • Device strategy and fleet refresh (Corporate): Creating a secure and consistent device management approach for corporate staff. 
  • Cloud migration: Migration of applicable applications and services to the public cloud. 
  • Customer Relationship Manager selection and implementation: Select and implement a common CRM solution to support the effective management of customers throughout the department.
  • System maintenance uplift: The proactive identification of systems and applications that need support will improve utilisation of platforms and ensure data is kept up to date. 
  • Review and retire systems: As applications are replaced or consolidated, review and retire application and underlying infrastructure.
