Our approach

The focus of the strategy is to ensure the department’s technology foundations are built around Security, Stability, Sustainability, and Scalability.

Our guiding principles

Designed through extensive consultation with DoE and in alignment with NSW Government policies, we will use the following guiding principles as a tool to support decision making in the definition of the future state architecture.

Cloud-first thinking: Technology solutions must preference cloud components.

Reuse before buy, buy before build: Leverage existing technology or preference consumption of as-a-service solutions.

Whole-of-Government approach: Use cross-agency agreements to realise economies of scale with large external vendors.

Innovative and agile culture: Create the environment to allow teams to innovate safely with confidence.

Freedom within boundaries: Allow for choice within governed guidelines for smaller and niche solutions.

Insight-driven decision making: Ensure faster access to rich data and insights, enabled by improved data quality, governance and integration.

Innovative and agile culture: Create the environment to allow teams to innovate safely with confidence.

More configuration, less customisation: Favour selection of packaged solutions to reduce the risk of customisation overheads.

Compatible platform choices: Ensure new solutions integrate with the existing ICT ecosystem.

Strong security and privacy: Create a culture that builds robust security and privacy standards and controls.
