Speaker 1:
Hi, my name is Cassie.
Speaker 2:
And my name is Louie.
Speaker 1:
And we are from Lindfield East Public School.
Speaker 2:
We are coming to you from Kurringai, Eora, Cammeraygal Country.
Speaker 1:
In this video, we will show you how to use ScratchJr to make code.
Speaker 2:
You will need an iPad with the ScratchJr app installed. When you open the app, press the home button to open your project page.
Speaker 1:
This is the projects page with all your saved projects. To make a new project, press the plus.
Speaker 2:
To change your background, you press the background icon next to the ABC on the top middle of the screen. When you pick a background, tap to the tick.
Speaker 1:
You can move the cat around with your finger.
Speaker 2:
If you want to delete a character, press and hold on the character until you see the red cross, and tap the cross.
Speaker 1:
To add a character, press the plus on the left. You can choose one and then press the tick. Let's make our character move. Yellow blocks make the code start.
Speaker 2:
Blue blocks make the character move. The purple block can make your character talk, grow, swing and even disappear.
Speaker 1:
The green blocks can play sounds. The orange blocks can make you wait, stop, move faster, or repeat. Red blocks go at the end of your sequence and can either stop or loop forever.
Speaker 2:
Let's start with a yellow block. To tell the programme to start, I'm going to use the green flag. Drag it down to the coding area.
Speaker 1:
Next, tap the blue block to see the movement code blocks. You can move and join the blocks below by dragging them next to each other. You can also drag the blocks off.
Speaker 2:
To delete the block, drag it above the code area. To undo something, tap the backwards arrow on the right.
Speaker 1:
I'm going to add some steps to our sequence. Some blocks have a number under them. Tap the number to change its value.
Speaker 2:
It's a good idea to put a red block at the end of your sequence.
Speaker 1:
Let's test our code.
Speaker 2:
Our code says, "If we tap the green flag, the character will move right 10 spaces, jump up two high, and move left 10 spaces."
Speaker 1:
Let's tap the green flag to see what happens. Good job. You coded your first programme. Have fun exploring all the different code blocks. Thanks for watching.
Speaker 2:
We hope you enjoy making things with ScratchJr.
Speaker 1:
If your school wants to make a video to teach others how to use technology, contact the T4L team.
Speaker 2:
Bye.
