Hi, and welcome to our short video on some of the features of an iPad that boosts student focus and attention in your classroom.

Today, we're looking at two simple iPad tools that can help you and your students each and every day. They are Guided Access and Background Sounds.

Let's start with Guided Access. This is a great tool designed to temporarily enable a teacher to lock a student into an app, disable buttons or parts of the screen, set time limits, or even restrict access to the keyboard. It is applied directly to each iPad and can be specific for each user.

Let's dive in and take a look. Firstly, open the Settings app, tap Accessibility. Now tap Guided Access and ensure it is turned on.

From here, you can set a password for the Guided Access for the device. It even allows you to play a sound to give an early reminder for a student that the end time and limit is closely approaching.

You can also set the Accessibility Shortcut feature here and adjust the Auto-Locking screen time during the Guided Access session.

There are a couple of ways to get started switching on Guided Access on your iPad. If you have a Home button, press it three times quickly. If you don't have a Home button, triple-click the Power or the On-and-Off button on your device.

Once you have triple-clicked and entered Guided Access mode, start in the Session Settings and choose what options you'd like to enable or not. It is here where you can set a time limit for use or disable the keyboard.

Once you are happy with your settings, choose which parts of the screen you might want to disable. I would recommend any menu bars at the top of the screen. It's simple to disable parts of the screen. You simply draw around the parts that you don't want the students to access.

Once you are happy with your setup, select Start and enter your password. Now students are locked in the app until you triple-click on the Guided Access button again and reenter that password.

Next, let's look at Background Sounds. This is a calming feature in Accessibility to mask distracting noises around you.

Here's how to set up Background Sounds. Tap Settings, scroll down and tap Accessibility.

Under the Hearing section, tap Audio & Visual. Now tap Background Sounds, toggle Background Sounds to On. Now tap Sound and choose from the large range of sounds available.

Let's sample a few and choose the one that works best for your student. You can adjust the volume slider to set the comfort level, and you can decide if you want the background sound to keep playing while you are listening to other media, or to stop when the iPad is locked by toggling on these features below.

For quick access to Background Sounds in the future, you can access it through the Control Centre, too. Diagonally swipe from the top right of the screen to access the Control Centre.

You can add Background Sounds as a control in here. Tap on the Plus icon, select Add a Control, tap Search Controls and type Background Sounds.

Or alternatively, scroll down to Hearing Accessibility and explore the large range of shortcuts to control many aspects of your iPad here you can utilise.

Once found, tap upon the Background Sounds icon to add it to your Control Centre. Once added, simply tap anywhere else on the screen to exit the Edit mode.

Now, let's explore how easy it will be to turn this on in the future. Navigate back to the Control Centre. Tap upon the Background Sound symbol. It will be the three music notes to turn it on and off.

If you want to adjust anything, simply tap and hold the icon, and this will allow a quick adjustment to the volume and the different types of sounds available. Now, the sound will play in the background and help you concentrate no matter where you are.
