Day 1 - Road safety education for SSP and support unit teachers K-12

Day 2 - Local schools: K-12 road safety for SSP and support units

Research suggests that students with disability or learning difficulty are more at risk as roads users. This workshop supports teachers to use the PDHPE K-12 syllabuses, Stage 6 Life Ready course and TfNSW resources to develop individualised teaching and learning activities that support students’ needs

Teachers will:

  • appreciate that road trauma is a contemporary health issue for children and young people in NSW
  • review road safety knowledge and skills in PDHPE K-12 syllabuses and the Stage 6 Life Ready course
  • increase their knowledge and understanding of how to address road safety issues impacting student safety onsite and in the school zone
  • explore resources to support effective teaching of road safety to meet their students learning needs
  • review strategies to promote a whole-school approach to road safety
  • apply their understanding of PDHPE K-12 syllabuses and the Stage 6 Life Ready course to develop and tailor road safety learning experiences to meet their students’ needs
  • localise resources to support the effective teaching of road safety
  • plan strategies to promote a whole-school approach to road safety
  • build support with a network of schools.

Accreditation:

This two-day workshop is recognised as 10 hours of registered professional learning, from the Australian Professional Standards addressing 2.1.2, 3.4.2, for gaining or maintaining proficient teacher accreditation in NSW.

Cost: Casual teacher relief is available for each day, if the school hasn’t previously attended. Additional teachers are welcome to attend with relief paid by own school

Completion of day 1 is a pre-requisite for day 2
