Professional learning for K–12 middle leaders in effective curriculum implementation. Support whole-school consistency across the 3 domains of learning, teaching and leading.

About the course

The 6 modules in this course are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST), the School Excellence Framework (SEF) and the School Leadership Institute’s (SLI) middle leader role descriptions.

Middle leaders are encouraged to use the tools and resources to unpack the learning with their school leadership teams between each module.

The expected time allocation varies for each module.

Course outcomes

Completion of all 6 professional development (PD) modules will build a collective understanding of effective school leadership across NSW, aligned to the phases of curriculum implementation. The modules are designed to enhance the capability and skills of middle leaders to:

  • understand their role in leading curriculum implementation
  • plan for and support the implementation of new syllabuses
  • lead quality teaching and effective classroom practice
  • lead teams to embed effective assessment and reporting practices into the new curriculum
  • use data to effectively evaluate the impact of curriculum change on staff and students
  • motivate and support teachers to effectively implement the curriculum to sustain a culture of continuous improvement.

Practices for leading self and others to support effective curriculum implementation.

Completing Module 1 will contribute 3 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of 'leadership to support the learning outcomes of students and children' of the NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 6.2.3 and 6.3.3 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher or Highly Accomplished Accreditation in NSW.

Register for Module 1 of Leading effective curriculum implementation – AC00725.

Identifying changes to the curriculum and developing a plan to implement and evaluate the change.

Completing Module 2 will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of 'delivery and assessment' of the NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptor 2.3.3 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher or Highly Accomplished Accreditation in NSW.

Registration for Module 2 will open later in 2024.

Leading teaching and learning through effective curriculum implementation. How to use collaborative inquiry to create conditions that focus on the core business of teaching and learning.

Module 3 contributes 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of 'delivery and assessment' of the NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 2.1.3 and 3.2.3 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher or Highly Accomplished Accreditation in NSW.

Registration for Module 3 will open later in 2024.

Leading collaborative assessment and reporting practices aligned to the new curriculum.

Module 4 will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of 'delivery and assessment' of the NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 5.1.3 and 5.2.3 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher or Highly Accomplished Accreditation in NSW.

Registration for Module 4 will open later in 2024.

Triangulating internal and external data to determine the impact of curriculum change on staff and students.

Module 5 will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of 'delivery and assessment' of the NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 5.4.3 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher or Highly Accomplished Accreditation in NSW.

Registration for Module 5 will open later in 2024.

Strengthening and scaling to ensure sustainable practices and systems.

Module 6 will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of 'leadership to support the learning outcomes of students/children' from the NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 6.1.3 and 6.3.3 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher or Highly Accomplished Accreditation in NSW.

Registration for Module 6 will open later in 2024.

The leading effective curriculum implementation (LECI) ‘Meet the experts’ series:

  • aims to support teachers to understand the relationship between the LECI professional learning, the research, and effective curriculum implementation in the classroom
  • is elective PD and supplementary to the LECI professional learning
  • focuses on unpacking module content through the lens of experts.
