Aboriginal Initiatives
The Djinggi program (staff only) supports Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students in Years 11 and 12 to complete a traineeship and gain a nationally recognised qualification while they complete their HSC. NSW public schools and preschools can also get involved by expressing their interest in hosting a Djinggi school-based trainee.
The Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant (EDAEG) supports young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander learners by subsidising training and employment opportunities. Eligible NSW public service agencies, local government authorities and Aboriginal community-controlled organisations can apply for funding for a range of opportunities.
Note: Funding for the school-based apprenticeship and traineeship element is closed for the 2025/26 grant period.
Barranggirra provides end-to-end support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander learners through culturally appropriate mentoring.
The OCHRE Hubs support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander learners by providing clear pathways to employment opportunities and the confidence and knowledge to pursue them.
Smart and Skilled qualifications are subsidised by the NSW Government. Eligible Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students are entitled to fee-free government subsidised training in priority skill areas with approved training providers.
Local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members and businesses can attend the Community Yarn to help shape what the service delivery should look like in initiatives and in the community.
Local Decision Making supports a positive change in the relationship between the government and Aboriginal communities in NSW. NSW Government agencies collaborate with Aboriginal Alliances/Assemblies to support community priorities, needs and aspirations around service delivery.
